Before you say, “I can’t ‘do’ yoga”, let me introduce the ancient art of Yoga Nidra. Nidra means sleep and, in this practice, you are guided into a meditative state that explores the koshas, or sheaths, of yourselves. These layers include your physical body, mind-emotional layer, energetic or pranic body where our sacred breath lives, our wisdom layer, and our bliss body-right at our heart’s center. Yoga Nidra is also known as Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) and has been proven in the literature to not only reduce stress and cortisol but also increase cognitive abilities, quality of actual sleep, and increase dopamine by up to 60%!
It is traditionally done laying down, but this powerful practice can be engaged laying in any position or even sitting in a chair. When woven together with the fourth principle of Unity—that prayer and meditation connect us to God—Yoga Nidra ceases to be a mere relaxation technique and becomes a powerful gateway to the Divine
